Something shifted & you can’t unfeel it.

You know something needs your attention. It might be a conversation you’ve been avoiding, a relationship that’s changing, or a part of yourself you’ve been trying to ignore because acknowledging it could change everything. Whatever it is, pretending it isn’t there won’t make it go away.

At Connected Threads Therapy, I help you make sense of what’s shifting and what you actually want. Even when it doesn’t match what you pictured for yourself.

You may be struggling with:

No two stories look exactly alike, but these are some of the conversations I hear every day. You don’t have to find the perfect words or wonder if your experience is “normal.” If it matters to you, it’s worth talking about.

Poly & Kink Therapy | Virginia & South Carolina

What is polyamorous & kink-aware therapy?

Polyamorous and kink aware therapy is support from a therapist who already understands non-monogamous relationships, kink, BDSM and the difference between consent and abuse. You shouldn’t have to explain or defend your relationship structure before you can talk about what’s actually bringing you to therapy. Whether you’re questioning your relationships, your boundaries, your identity, or what you want next, therapy gives you the space to sort through it without judgment or pressure to fit a traditional path.

Jennifer at Connected Threads Therapy has spent nearly 10 years working almost exclusively with polyamorous, kink-involved, and LGBTQ+ adults throughout Virginia and South Carolina. This means your first session focuses directly on what you’re experiencing, whether that’s jealousy, trust, anxiety, or relationship conflict, instead of spending valuable time explaining the basics of your lifestyle.

Polyamory & Non-Monogamy | Open & Queer Relationships

Are you facing any of these challenges?

Sometimes the hardest part isn’t making a decision. It’s admitting something has changed. If you’re questioning your relationship, exploring non-monogamy, or realizing your needs no longer match the life you’ve built, therapy gives you space to sort through it without rushing toward an answer.

You know what you need, but saying it out loud feels uncomfortable. Or you set a boundary, then find yourself backing away from it to keep the peace. Together, we’ll explore what’s making boundaries difficult and help you communicate them with more confidence.

Are you curious about opening your relationship, newly practicing ethical non-monogamy, or have been polyamorous for years? Therapy can help you navigate communication, jealousy, agreements, and the challenges that come with building relationships outside traditional expectations.

Kink can bring up conversations about communication, trust, boundaries, consent, and changing needs, just like any other relationship. Therapy gives you space to work through those conversations with someone who already understands the context.

Relationships change. People change. Sometimes the version of yourself that made sense five years ago doesn’t feel like the person you are today. Therapy can help you understand what’s shifting and decide what comes next.

Jealousy doesn’t mean you’ve failed or that your relationship is unhealthy. Often, it’s pointing toward something that needs attention. Together, we’ll explore what’s underneath those feelings and develop healthier ways to respond.

You may have been through betrayal, difficult relationships, or years of second-guessing yourself. Therapy can help you rebuild confidence in your instincts so your decisions come from clarity instead of fear.

How Individual Therapy Can Help

Everyone’s path looks different, but the goal is the same: helping you create meaningful changes that carry into your everyday life.

A lot of people show up here without a clear answer to what they actually want, and that's not a failure, it's usually the first honest thing that's happened in a while. We slow down and separate what you actually want from what you've been performing, whether that's a relationship structure, a boundary, or an identity you've been talking yourself into. You leave with an answer you can actually stand behind, not a guess you're still testing.

Most people already know exactly which conversation they've been putting off. What's usually missing isn't courage, it's a plan for how to actually say it without the whole thing spiraling. We work through what you're afraid will happen if you say it, and build the words that get you there without losing yourself in the process. The conversation still might be hard. It just stops being impossible.

Knowing your boundary and holding it in the moment are two completely different skills, and most people were only ever taught the first one. This is where the second part gets practiced, what to actually say, how to say it without over-explaining or apologizing for it, and what to do when it gets tested. A boundary you can hold under pressure is worth a lot more than one that just sounds good in theory.

Second-guessing yourself gets exhausting fast, especially when the decision touches your relationships or your identity and everyone seems to have an opinion about it but you. Here, the goal is trusting your own read on a situation again, instead of outsourcing the answer to everyone around you. Confidence doesn't mean certainty about the future. It means trusting that you can handle whatever you decide.

If it feels like you keep landing in the same fight, the same relationship dynamic, or the same spiral just wearing different clothes, that's not a coincidence and it's not bad luck either. The actual pattern underneath it, the one that's easy to spot from outside and nearly impossible to see from inside it, is usually where the real work starts. Insight alone doesn't change anything. This is where it actually starts to.

There's no single template for what a relationship is supposed to look like, whatever you were handed growing up. What actually works for you and the people in your life is the only template worth building toward, not what's supposed to work on paper. That might mean rethinking commitment, structure, or what closeness even means to you. It's your relationship. It should be built around what actually fits.

Something happens to a lot of people where they stop trusting their own instincts, usually after being told for too long that their instincts were the problem. Rebuilding that trust starts small, with the easy decisions, before it ever gets asked to carry the bigger ones. You don't need someone else's permission to trust your own read on your own life.

Not knowing what happens next is uncomfortable for almost everyone, but it becomes unbearable when it feels like everything is uncertain at once. Separating what's actually unresolved from what just feels that way because it's all tangled together is usually where things start to settle. You don't have to have every answer to feel steady again. You just need the noise to quiet down enough to think.

About

Why Work With Me?

“I try to tell people what they need to hear, but in a way that will actually land for them.” Jennifer Fuller, LMFT

I work well with people and relationships that don’t fit neatly into boxes. I’m comfortable with complexity, nuance, and conversations that might feel risky to say out loud. Clients often tell me they feel safe here. Not because I agree with everything they say, but because I’m steady, direct, and not easily rattled. You don’t have to explain your relationship structure, your desires, or your identity before we can get to work.

I’m honest without being harsh. I pay attention to what needs to be said, as well as to how feedback lands. I use humor when it helps, and I challenge when it matters. Whether you’re coming in on your own or with partners, my goal is to help you understand what’s actually happening beneath the surface. Then, I provide you with insight during our session along with tools that work outside our session.

My Therapy Approach

How Therapy Works

Therapy here is honest and grounded in what is actually happening. Let’s slow things down, make sense of the mess, and focus on changes you can sustain outside our sessions.

Slow Down

When everything feels tangled, the first step is not fixing it. We slow things down so emotions settle, patterns become visible, and conversations stop spiraling.

Untangle

Once there is more space, we start to untangle what is happening beneath the surface. Misunderstandings get clarified, communication shifts, and new options start to emerge.

Make It Sustainable

Insight only matters if it holds up in real life. This phase focuses on building communication, boundaries, and agreements that you can actually maintain over time.

Connected Threads Therapy

Frequently Asked Questions

I spent years at a group practice that marketed itself as LGBTQ+-affirming, and I was one of the only clinicians there who saw couples. Queer couples started finding me, then individuals who identified as polyamorous, until close to half of my clients were a part of that community. I realized they weren't looking for anything complicated, they just wanted someone who already understood their world so they didn't have to teach me first. That's the whole reason my practice exists.

No. Many clients are polyamorous or kink involved, and you don't need to use those labels to work with me. If you're questioning, exploring, or just outside the usual script in some way, that's enough.

Session rates depend on the length of time and the type of support needed.
50 minute sessions are $280
75 minute sessions are $400
90 minute sessions are $480

Longer sessions are offered selectively and discussed together ahead of time to make sure they are clinically appropriate.

No. I am a private pay practice and do not accept insurance. This allows me to work more flexibly and thoughtfully without the restrictions that often come with insurance based care. I can provide a superbill upon request if you would like to pursue out of network reimbursement.

That's completely normal, and it's exactly what individual therapy is for. A lot of the clearest work happens one-on-one first, before anyone else is in the room.

I've been in practice for 10 years and I'm a licensed LMFT in both Virginia and South Carolina.

Yes. I offer consultations so we can talk through what you are looking for and decide whether working together makes sense. This is also a chance for you to ask questions and get a feel for how I work before committing to therapy.

That's a completely reasonable place to start. A consultation isn't a commitment, it's a conversation to see whether this is the right fit before anything else.
